What the DFC is
A Dedicated Freight Corridor, DFC, is a rail line reserved for freight trains, separating goods traffic from passenger services so that both can run faster and more reliably. India is building two major corridors, the Eastern and the Western DFC. The Western DFC, running broadly between the Delhi region and Mumbai, is the backbone of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor. High-capacity freight rail is central to the DMIC logic, because it lets industrial nodes move raw materials and finished goods efficiently over long distances.
Why the DFC matters for Dholera
Dholera sits within the DMIC influence zone that is anchored on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, which is part of why the location was chosen for a manufacturing city. However, the fact base is careful here, a direct dedicated Dholera freight spur off the Western DFC is not reliably confirmed in primary sources. There is also a separately proposed Bhimnath to Dholera freight line under the DMIC, which was noted as approved by the NICDIT Board on 21 Sep 2021 but has long been pending without a current timeline. So the DFC connection is real at the corridor level but should not be overstated as a finished, dedicated Dholera rail freight link.
