Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, known as PSMC, is a Taiwanese foundry that is the process-technology partner for the Tata Electronics fab at Dholera. Who PSMC is

Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation is a semiconductor foundry headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan. A foundry manufactures chips designed by other companies, and PSMC specialises in mature and specialty process nodes rather than the bleeding edge. Its portfolio covers logic, memory and specialty products such as power-management integrated circuits, display driver ICs and microcontrollers, which are exactly the product families associated with the Dholera fab in the fact pack. PSMC's value to a new entrant is not only its wafer capacity but its accumulated process knowledge: the detailed recipes, equipment settings and yield-learning that turn a cleanroom full of tools into a working production line. PSMC's mature and specialty nodes are well suited to the products the Dholera fab targets, because power-management chips, display drivers and microcontrollers do not need the smallest transistors, they need reliability, cost efficiency and steady supply. Per the fact pack, Tata Electronics has indicated the plan was always to start with 55nm and 90nm, followed by 28nm, so the first chips will be at a mature node. A technology partner is central to hitting that plan, because the difference between a fab that runs and one that stalls is often the depth of transferred process knowledge and the speed of yield learning.

Build status and honest caveats

The approvals and investment are durable facts, but the production status is a target and should be read as such. Per the fact pack and v13 refresh, the fab broke ground in March 2024 and, by mid-2026, major structural and civil work is reported complete with cleanroom fit-out and machinery move-in underway, a step past the roughly 50 percent civil figure current in April and May 2026. First silicon or trial production is targeted around December 2026, and commercial-scale production is reported for mid-2028. No source confirms that a chip has been produced yet. Some coverage, such as Digitimes in April 2026, also reported leadership and engineering hurdles, which we note as a reported risk rather than a fact.
